The 22@Barcelona area, the technological district of the city, is on the verge of carrying out a new project. It will be Barcelona’s inspiration as the model of a smart city and the developer of the «Internet of Things«.

The historical Ca l’Alier building, located in the centre of the 22@Barcelona district, formerly Poblenau, will be the epicentre of the future technology hub which Cisco Systems and Schneider Electric want to develop in the city.

Cisco’s new 1720m2 innovation centre will we the fifth of the global centres which the multinational enterprise owns around the world. Currently they have others in Songdo (South Korea) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and they are just about to add another two in Toronto (Canada) and in Germany.

Now coming of age, the MACBA (The Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art) is planning to grow, along with other establishments in the Raval area. The future goal is to create the cultural hub of Barcelona.

The Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art is going to grow in order to widen its appeal and influence in the Raval. On the museum’s 18th birthday, it plans to grow to 1,800m2 and organise new activities, in order to attract up to 15% more visitors.

The brilliant Loewe gallery in Barcelona is to host an exhibition of its history, paying tribute to Javier Carvajal, who modernised its image and caused its international rise to prominence.

The whole story began when the Barcelona architect Javier Carvajar met Enrique Loewe Knappe, a member of the brand’s founding family, at the Milan Triennale in 1957.
